Students at Meridian
A universally designed program that celebrates students’ strengths and builds upon their weaknesses. We seek students who have difficulty reaching their full potential in a traditional classroom. Students are selected for admission on the basis of readiness for the full circle educational program within our school culture. Through focus, effort, intention, and effective planning, we believe all students can acquire the skills necessary to lead safe, productive and integrated lives.
Staff at Meridian
Meridian staff have experience working with students who have difficulty reaching their full potential in a traditional classroom. The goal is to bring our students full circle so that the skills they are learning they are also actively applying in real life settings. They come to us from their home school where they are failing and we work with them. We maximize their strengths and build them up so they can eventually return to their home district.
Community at Meridian
Most afternoons, students from Meridian Academy walk out the door at 3 West Broad Street and into downtown Bethlehem. They might be stocking shelves at a food pantry, shooting baskets at the YMCA, learning to shape dough behind the counter at a bakery, or sitting along the Monocacy Creek. It is not a field trip. It is part of the school day, every day, and it is called Community Connections.
Meridian Academy is a small private school serving students with emotional and behavioral support needs in the Lehigh Valley. Its program is built on the idea that skills learned in a structured classroom have to be practiced somewhere less predictable before they belong to a student for good. Downtown Bethlehem is that somewhere.
Community Connections works in two directions. Students go out to local businesses and organizations, and community members come into the school as mentors to talk about their work and what it took to get there.
